| Little steps to feeling better Sometimes we get stuck in survival mode. We live day by day and we feel that our lives are out of control. We feel so low that we have feelings about what's right but are easily used or controlled by people who do not have our best interest in mind. I know my life has been a mess for the last five years, and I really thought I was never going to survive the pain I went through during this time. Feeling desperate, sad and very lonely I tried to learn by reading every night after putting my newborn baby to sleep. I would ussually read 2 or 3 books at a time. Flicking pages and trying to desperately find something to help me get through the next day. And everyday through tears I would find a little message from God that would help me breathe again. It was just tiny steps but it was all I could do. One little saying that helped me was "I can choose peace; rather than this" which is a quote from -A Course in Miracles. This was the first choice I made in a positive direction. I can choose peace, I can choose a better life. Saying this over and over again, made me feel that I could make a choice. The problems I had with a certain person did not go away, it continued and it kept tearing me apart, but I could slowly start to seperate myself a little. It was just knowing that no matter what was happening I could choose peace in my head and in my heart and by ending with "rather than this" seemed to put the problem in a box and it helped to set it apart from me. Another saying was "Think about what you DO want. NOT what you DONT want." When you are surrounded with problems, you may find that you go through your day constantly thinking and worrying about this person or situation. You have to reprogram your mind. So I constantly had to be mindful and stop myself and say "what am I thinking about?" Am I thinking about a problem or am I having thoughts about a negative person in my life? If so, then I would stop and ask myself "Is this what I want?". If the answer was NO, then I would change that thought to something that I did want. Change what your thinking to a positive thought. Another great step was taking responsibility. If I was responsible for where I was in my life, then I was responsible for the people that I had let into my life. This realisation gave me my power back, I could choose who was going to be in my life. In the past certain people chose when it suited them to be with me or not, and they would come or go as they pleased. Well no more! Make a list of the people in your life that you spend time with. Put a tick next to the positive ones and a cross next to the negative ones. You want to limit the time you spend with these negative people. Believe me you will feel so much better. And surround yourself with positive people who have goals and dreams for the future. Its amazing how different you will feel. These are just small steps but can make a huge difference to your life. |
